We Create Awesome : "VAULT!"
VAULT!
It was a dark gloomy day. The sky was dark grey, the
sun was covered by the rain carrying clouds. In the middle of nowhere, was a
tiny, worn out hut. Who knew how long it could stand? Shingles had fallen of
the roof, the plaster was exposed on the walls and the dusty, brown wooden door
was almost off its hinges.
Inside this house was a ten-year old boy named Parker.
He was packing up all his stuff with his mom. They were shifting tonight. To
the city. To their old house. The house in which Parker’s father had died.
Parker was a young a boy when this incident had taken place. He was playing on
the floor with his cloth puppets when he had heard a gun fire. A bullet was
nearing his chest, when Joane (Parker’s father) had dived and saved his life.
They had immediately moved out and come to their present home, but now they
were moving back to that wretched house of horror.
Night was freezing. The mother and son hopped into a
taxi with all their luggage. They soon arrived at their destination. This house
was in a much better condition. It was well painted, well maintained and much
closer to the city. They stepped into their cozy home and soon dozed off.
The next day was shiny and bright. Parker was woken up
by the golden rays of the sun falling on his face. He looked out the window to
see lined houses, a beautiful garden and a bird bath. That morning Parker
helped his mom get settled in the new old house of his. He enjoyed his day. He
met his old friend Rose and they hung out for a while. Time flew by.” Supper is
ready” his mom shouted. Parker went into his cozy home, ate his dinner, watched
TV for about an hour and then decided to go to bed. He went into his room and
just lay down. He wasn’t really feeling sleepy, so he switched on the light. As
he got up, he found a tiny red button on the wall.
Parker was surprised that he had never noticed it. He
moved towards it. Look before you leap. It was the first thought that came into
his mind. Without any further ado, he pushed the button. Adrenaline rushed
through his body. He was curious to know what was in there. An ancient
artefact, a scroll, a treasure map! But it was none. It was a vault.
“A vault. Seriously.” Parker murmured. The vault had a
code. A code that Parker did not know. “What a waste of time.” Parker said to
himself and went to bed. Parker spent time with Rose for the next few days. He
finally decided to tell her about the vault. He explained everything in detail.
The code. The button. Everything. Rose promised to keep this between them.
That night, Rose spilled all the information to her
parents. She just couldn’t resist. She was very guilty, but her parents told
her something that they had never told to anyone before.
She rushed to Parker’s home and told him this. He was
shocked.
Do you guys want to know what it is? Of course, you do.
Rose’s father was a doctor. He was the one who had collected Joane’s body. At
that moment, he had found a note in Joane’s jacket pocket. He thought that it
may be a useful piece of information as it contained an eight-digit code.
Parker realized what this was and sprinted towards Rose’s residence and asked
Rose’s father about this. Unfortunately, he didn’t know where the chit was.
They searched for it all day. They found absolutely nothing. He curled up in a
corner of Rose’s bedroom and sobbed. Rose found him here and consoled him with
sympathy and boosted his confidence.
Parker stood and searched again. This time, with luck
on his side, he spotted something that he hadn’t spotted before. A black file. Behind
the dustbin in the kitchen. He picked it up and went to Rose’s father.
He opened it to find photos of his long dead father
along with some essays. But at the end, in the back pocket of the file, he
found a chit. He found a chit and opened it. It had a code written on it.
Probably, the vault’s. It was: 81456739. Parker took this and went to his room
and pushed the button. The only difference was that this time he knew the code.
The vault reappeared. He entered the code. It opened.
Parker was so excited. He finally had some spark in
his life. When he looked into it, he found an ID card with Joane written in
black ink, two full boxes of money and riches and finally a letter with
Parker’s name on the top. It said: Dear Parker, I knew that you find this
vault. I am proud of you son. But it is time for you know the truth. I am
pretty sure you remember my death. Those people who tried to shoot you actually
were targeting me. They knew that you were the most important thing in my life
and tried to kill you. I was actually a government spy. A good one. Those were
the bad guys. I had a clue that it was going to happen. But I didn’t trust my
instinct. Take care of these things inside and mostly yourself. I know that you
are going to grow up and become a wonderful young lad. Just take care. Love,
Dad.
Tears rolled down Parker’s cheek. Now his aim was to
find those bad guys and show that messing with him was a very bad idea.
