Online Education System

    As teachers our main focus is to impart knowledge. Knowledge, not only about the subject in which we have mastery but also about the surrounding ambience, to show our students the right path of progress which will lead to the overall development of their personality as an individual by making them utilize their inherent potential to the fullest. When we teach, we are constantly trying to facilitate and promote learning in those we teach. Teaching should make leaning better and faster. We learn much from teaching and therefore teachers are constant learners too!

    The present pandemic situation what the entire world is courageously facing is one best example which depicts how well human beings can adapt to any kind of situation no matter good or bad. The outbreak of COVID- 19 affected different people in different ways. The education system witnessed some revolutionary switch. A great challenge was thrown upon both teachers and the students to keep the learning channel open, in spite of both being away from our territories. The role of a teacher is to make judgements about how best to help their students learn in the environments in which they teach. Though we had included ICT in education years before, but that was used more like a teaching aid but then the alarming situation pushed us to carry out the entire teaching and learning process on a digital platform as Online Education.

    Online education is a media based, remote or asynchronous and supported by some instructional systems, it vans also be defined as it is a formalized teaching and learning system dedicated because it can learn through electronic media and the internet and do not require specific places for education. Abiding to the set of rules imposed by the government in controlling the spread of of COVID -19 we started to work from home. It is a great opportunity for us to spend some quality time with our family and which has also increased our productivity at work. We are working longer than usual, without getting much tired. We are exploring and learning new technologies, new ways of conducting assessments, new innovative methods of teaching to make it a fun learning activity. Online education has offered more opportunities to expand our horizon. Students are flowing in to the classes seeking opportunity to learn from anywhere at any time. During an online class a single teacher can address a lot longer than the traditional class size. Thereby many students can learn at the same time. However, the peer interaction is partial as most of the interactions are generated by a number of active students. Online education encourages students to be proactive and self-motivated when it comes to attending the classes daily, making the notes, submission of the work and preparing for the assessments as teacher cannot guide the student physically to make them work and remind them about on time submission.

    It is highly important to say that learning is no longer confined within the four walls of a classroom. Teacher armed with a text book is no longer the sole source of educational experience. It is also known that information resources are everywhere, often separated from the learner by time and space. Online education defines the process of connecting learners with these remote resources. Meanwhile we can not ignore the fact that receiving the entire yearly curriculum via online has raised some serious concern about the screen time of students which has led to some adverse effect on their vision however, we can tackle this problem by being introspective and framing the curriculum keeping in mind the demands of the current learning community. Including more of choice-based learning will help students, not to waste time on the subject or a topic which doesn’t interest them. Thereby they can invest their time and energy in some fruitful activity. Online teaching and learning are user friendly as all it takes is a mobile phone and internet and the majority of the population has access to both. However, a proper training should be given to teachers on how one can make their online teaching class effective by including different user-friendly applications to make it a fun learning process thereby attracting students. There is an obvious chance that students might find online education less effective learning than in classroom as it lacks the practical aspects of learning and encourages the passive learning which we can overcome slowly as we go deep into the system and explore the new possibilities over time.

    No one can deny that learning is a lifelong pursuit where training and retraining become strategies for individual and community success. It is noted that there are a variety of online education solutions for every educational need. Be it online or offline platform of teaching the effort that goes into carving the young minds is same. Teaching profession is driven by passion and the amount of dedication and patience shown by teachers in learning new technology and skills is commendable. It is thought that some people agree that online education has come along way and opened new vistas in the filed of education, some are still questioning the value of learning through non traditional means. Whatever is the case, there are various opinions to consider and they are all true in their own right.
